Festival Chic

Harriet and I at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend

As you all will probably be aware, this weekend is Radio 1's Hackney Weekend. I was lucky enough to get a ticket and had a fantastic time on Saturday, spending the day listening to Ed Sheeran, Sean Paul, Flo Rida and Emili Sande to name a few. The whole day was so much fun, but I couldn't help noticing some of the many questionable outfit choices that festival-goers had made, not to mention the disturbing dance moves that were also going on.

So, if you are planning on going to a festival this summer and you aren't sure what exactly to be wearing, then here are a few ideas for you.

Top Row (Left to Right): Embroidered Muslin Top Day Birger Et Mikkelsen £70, Sequin Top by Topshop £40, Khaki Sleeveless Denim Shirt by Topshop £32, Swan Print Tie Bandeau Top by Topshop £28
Middle Row (Left to Right): Stud Shorts by The Ragged Priest £65, Crochet Trim Hotpants by Topshop £32, Bleach Crochet Hotpants by Topshop £34, Bubblegum Shorts by The Ragged Priest £40
Bottom Row (Left to Right): Pink Hunters £47, Black Gloss Hunters £83, Navy Hunters £79, Olive Hunters £79

It's best to bring as little as possible with you, so invest in a good pair of wellies like a pair of Hunters (they are so worth it) and stick to wearing shorts and tees. There are some great shorts available from Topshop that are perfect for festivals which look great, go with most tops and are practical for days and weekends in muddy fields. Studded, crocheted and dip-dye versions add a more festival-vibe. When choosing for your top half, remember that you are likely to get very hot, so opt for strapless and sleeveless tops that'll keep you cool. And if you are keen to look a bit more glam, then go for tees with sequins or embellishment.

The outfits above have been chosen so that you can mix and match the items.

Clockwise from top left: Black Woven Cuff by River Island £10, Cats Eye Cluster Ring Set by Topshop £15, Blue Woven Bracelet by River Island £10, Dip Dye Spike Necklace by Topshop £10, Emilio Pucci earrings £122.50, Aqua Stone Oversized Ring by River Island £12, Spike and Pearl Necklace by Topshop £12.50, Spike Mesh Multi Pack Bracelets by Topshop £25

When it comes to jewellery, more is more at a festival. Friendship bracelets always look good, as do stacks of rings and bracelets. Opt for a statement ring or necklace if you have chosen a simpler outfit.
